Vietnam to hold the first International Tea Festival

Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Ministry of Information and Communications cooperated with the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen Province to hold a press conference to announce the content of the first International Tea Festival - Thai Nguyen 2011.



As schedule, the first ever international tea festival in Vietnam will take place in the center of Thai Nguyen City and Nui Coc Lake Tourist Site (Phuc Tan Commune, Thai Nguyen City) from November 11-15, 2011. It is expected that tea masters and importers from ten countries and territories where have imported or used Vietnamese tea products will gather with traditional villages and tea-trading enterprises nationwide participating in the festival.

The festival is not only an occasion to introduce Vietnamese tea culture and products to international visitors, but also to exchange experiences between the domestic and international tea-related businesses, and gradually improve tea manufacturing and processing in Vietnam, affirm Vietnamese tea brand in the international market.

The opening ceremony of the festival will take place on November 12, 2011 at Nui Coc Lake Tourist Site in Thai Nguyen Province.

In addition to a number of key activities such as international seminar on tea tree; tea culture festival; Thai Nguyen Beauty Contest; photo exhibition featuring Vietnam’s tea-growing areas..., there are also many other support activities in the festival including international tourism and trade fair Thai Nguyen 2011; rural market with specialities of the region; carnival, martial arts performances; human chess, boat racing, shows to introduce Vietnamese tea, ecotours and “Return to the roots” tours, and art performances...

It is estimated that the festival will attract about 500,000 international and domestic visitors.

Thai Nguyen to host International Tea Festival

The International Tea Festival will be held in 2011 by the northern province of Thai Nguyen and mark the development of the local trade promotion. This event is highly significant for the local tea enterprises to share experience with international partners and promote tea trademarks to the world, said the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Thai Nguyen tea is famous nationwide for its quality and special taste, such as Tan Cuong, La Bang and Tuc Tranh whose trademarks are protected by the State.

Since 2005, the province has held many tea festivals and tea culture weeks to advertise its products to both domestic and foreign markets.

In June, 2010, the Thai Nguyen Trade Promotion Centre introduced the two potential tea importers-Pakistan and Sri Lanka-to local tea enterprises.

is expected to promote the Vietnamese tea values and trademarks locally and globally, provide a playing field for local tea enterprises to share experience with international partners, and enhance business and production of Vietnamese tea.
Thái Nguyên ranks the second in Việt Nam in terms of tea cultivation area and output.
So far, Thái Nguyên tea is famous nationwide for its quality and special taste like Tân Cương, La Bằng, and Tức Tranh and has been available in nine foreign countries.

First international tea festival to open in Thai Nguyen

The first International Tea Festival 2011 will take place in the northern province of Thai Nguyen on November 11-15, and will include participation from ten countries and territories who import and use tea products from Vietnam.

The festival is also expected to attract the participation of 400,000 local people and 60,000 foreign visitors. 30 domestic provinces and cities; 50 traditional tea villages and 25 tea companies in Thai Nguyen province will also join the festival.

Various activities will be held during the 5-day event including seminars on the tea industry, trade promotion activities, exhibitions on Thai Nguyen and Vietnamese people, a tea cultural festival and an arts performance.

The festival will be a chance to introduce and promote Vietnamese tea and culture as well as Thai Nguyen tea to domestic and foreign businesses.

Thai Nguyen is now the second largest tea-producing province in Vietnam, after the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

The festival is expected to have the participation of enterprises and importers from 10 countries and territories, including China, India, Russia, Japan, the UK, the US, Germany, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Taiwan (China).
Domestic tea enterprises and producers from 34 provinces and traditional tea trade village will also join the festival.
The festival will feature an international tea seminar, a tea culture festival, a beauty contest, and an exhibition on the land and people of Vietnam in general and Thai Nguyen province in particular.
The festival will also include many other activities such as the 2011 Thai Nguyen international trade and tourism fair, a carnival, art performances, and sporting events, as well as a rural market offering local specialties and tours for visitors.
The festival, which is jointly organised by the Thai Nguyen provincial People’s Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, aims to introduce Vietnamese tea trademarks and products to domestic and international visitors. It is also an opportunity for tea-related enterprises to exchange experiences and boost co-operation.
