Asian Forum on National Strategy for Population Aging and Establishing Services for Older People

From 29 – 31 December 2008 in Ha Noi, the Asian Forum on National Strategy for  Population Aging and Establishing Services for Older People was held by the Viet Nam Committee on the Elderly with participation of representatives from nine countries of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam. Viet Nam’s Deputy Minister Pham Gia Khiem delivered an opening remarks.

Workshop on Promoting Roles of Religious Dignitaries in Implementing Population and Family Planning Policies

On 16th April 2009 in Nghe An province, the Viet Nam Fathers Front, incollaboration with the General Office for Poopulation and Family Planning held a workshop on Promoting Roles of Religious Dignitaries  in Implementing Population and Family Planning Policies.
Attending in the workshop are religious leaders from provincies of Thai Binh, Hung Yen, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, and Thua Thien-Hue and representatives from these  provincial Fathers Front Offices.

1. By 2007, there were 220,000 people living with HIV and AIDS in Viet Nam. By 2010, there will be 254,000 people living with HIV and AIDS, and this number will reach 280,000 by 2012.

Population - Ethnics of Viet Nam

Vietnam is a multi-nationality country with 54 ethnic groups. The Viet (Kinh) people account for 87% of the country’s population and mainly inhabit the Red River delta, the central coastal delta, the Mekong delta and major cities. The other 53 ethnic minority groups, totaling over 8 million people, are scattered over mountain areas (covering two-thirds of the country’s territory) spreading from the North to the South.
